The Long Awaited St. Andrew’s Ball
(By ISKL Scottish Dancers)

All in a tither
Hither and thither
Girls skipping along
In the middle of the throng
Giggling and chatting
Turning and twirling
In plaid and in stripes
Skipping and turning
And oh the bagpipes

We were all ready, the day of the Ball
In Double Tree Hilton, to dance in the hall
The walls were all bare, Not even a light
What would happen when it was night?

We walked quite sedately to the shiny dance floor
Preceded quite carefully by bagpipes galore
Eventually we stood in our position
And practiced our dance with great precision

Pas de bas and travel steps, don’t forget to pousette
Watch your partner, where to next? now we have to pirouette
Weaving in and weaving out turn and peel make an arch
Underneath, back in place start again, keep up the pace

Now it’s night, the lights are on, the saltire up, it’s nearly time
All these people milling around, talking and laughing, looking so fine
Jewellery sparkling, stars in their hair
Soon they will all turn to stare, at us, we will be there

All in a tither
Hither and thither
Girls skipping along
In the middle of the throng
Giggling and chatting
Turning and twirling
In plaid and in stripes
Skipping and turning
And oh the bagpipes

The big doors open the bagpipes announce
Scotland the Brave and off we go with a flounce and a bounce
On the floor we skip and then we twirl we nod to our partner and off we go
The light bulbs flash the people all clap and go with the flow

And now it is over, it is time to go
Best day ever we did so well
The chieftain she came to give her congrats
We smiled so widely like Cheshire cats

Then off we all ran to change and to eat
A long thirsty drink before we could blink
Off came the kilts and out came the hair
It wasn’t too long till we weren’t even there

We left with a dream of:

All in a tither
Hither and thither
Girls skipping along
In the middle of the throng
Giggling and chatting
Turning and twirling
In plaid and in stripes
Skipping and turning
And oh the bagpipes
