Chieftain’s Chatter – March 2018

Chieftain, Jamie Graham

It is my great honour and privilege to take on the mantle of Chieftain from Paul Henderson. Firstly, I would like to pay tribute to Paul who has done a magnificent job as Chieftain over the past year. I would also like to thank the outgoing committee for the wonderful job that they have done, despite the very challenging business environment that we are all facing in Kuala Lumpur. I would also like to welcome all the members of the new committee, some have newly joined the committee and of course, some are veterans.

Change of Chieftain’s

The Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday 24th March, hosted by Kenny and Linda Ross at their lovely home. Our thanks to you both for so kindly opening up your house to accommodate so many Scots in high spirits! The AGM was followed by the whisky tasting evening, which attracted 60 people and was a very enjoyable event. Willie Watt and Tony Jarrett won the whisky tasting competition. Willie of course won it last year, so the gauntlet has been well and truly thrown down!

Our next major events in the calendar are the May Concert on Saturday the 12th May at the Doubletree Hilton and the 5th Kuala Lumpur Highland Games on Sunday the 13th May at the Kuala Lumpur Equestrian and Country Resort. Both events promise to be great fun with a return of ‘Big Vern ‘n’ the Shootahs’ for the May Concert.

We are expecting no less than 11 pipe bands for the Highland Games and of course the Heavies will be coming back from Scotland to ‘putt the stane’ ‘throw the hammer’ and ‘toss the caber’. The Tug O’ War competition will be on, as will the 10’s Rugby Competition. The day promises to be very entertaining, last year we had over 8,000 people through the gates, so do come along and help us make this unique cultural event even more successful this year.

Yours Aye

Jamie Graham

127th Chieftain of the Selangor St Andrew’s Society
