The end of my tenure as Chieftain is fast approaching, and as I make arrangements to hand over to a new Chieftain who will be elected at the forthcoming AGM, I look back on the year with great fondness.
We are very busy at the moment planning two major highlights of the Society year; the May Concert and KL Highland Games. Plans are well ahead and it looks like it will be another fantastic weekend. No doubt the Organising Committee will be exhausted at the end of such an active and busy period.
The May Concert will take place on the Friday, 5th of May, in the Hilton Kuala Lumpur Hotel. We have pleasure in announcing that Big Vern n’ the Shootahs will be entertaining us on the evening.
The Highland Games have provoked considerable interest from various Pipe Bands who are booking their places for the Piping & Drumming events at an encouraging rate. We are delighted that the Society is providing an annual opportunity for local pipe bands to compete and we also welcome overseas participants.
The ever competitive Tug-o’-War teams are in training. As usual it promises to be an event that appeals to the crowds. If you fancy participating in the Tug-o’-War, register your team and get practicing; all are welcome.
If you just want to sit in the bar, drinking a cold beer and watching the heavies tossing the caber or the teams competing in Tug-o’-War, that is absolutely fine. There is plenty to see as the events and activities continue all day.
The Kid’s Village is shaping up nicely, as are the food and beverage vendor preparations. Do come along as there is something for everyone
The A.G.M. and Whisky Tasting event will be held on Saturday the 4th of March. We will be serving some good home-made Scottish fayre at the whisky evening. As usual there will be a fantastic array of malts to be sampled, do come along and bring a bottle of your favourite whisky to sample with friends.
For RM 50 per person you can’t go wrong!
Don’t fret ladies, if like me you’re not a whisky drinker, we have a cash bar selling some nice beer and wines.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the committee for all your hard work over the past year or so. We have had a lot of laughs on the committee during event planning, along with the odd disagreement. I have had a blast working with every one of you.
I’m sad to see so many of our friends and colleagues leaving KL. I’d like to wish you all luck in your new ventures and hope to see you all back in KL one day.
Do check-out our website for more info on events and also to purchase tickets for our events.
Ali King,
